Symmetrical balance is when the composition is almost perfectly balanced. Asymmetrical balance is when the photo is not necessarily symmetrical but the colors objects in the photo makes the photo look even. I think that visual balance is important because when it has a balance the viewers eye doesn't have a hard time trying to understand the composition but when it isn't balanced it sometimes gets hard for the viewer.
