The rule of thirds is a way that you can make a snapshot become a photo. Instead of being in the middle and making it boring you can put it in a corner to make the photo more interesting. It makes a tic-tac-toe looking figure and all you have to do is put the subject on one of the corners that intercept. In my photo I put the San Francisco logo on the bottom left corner which made the composition better instead of it just being straight in the middle.
